Chest pain on the left side
Chest pain in the left side of the body is a classical sign of an upcoming heart attack. In most cases the pain is indeed combined with some of the other heart attacks. The pain in the chest gets described often as fullness, squeezing or pressure inside the chest cavity. In some of the cases a burning sensation may accompany these side effects. Pain, Prickling, Numbness or other sensations are commonly felt over in the left arm however they often transfer to the right. The arms might also feel achy, weak or feel to be suddenly heavier than normal.
In case you are suffering from an incoming heart attack the first thing you may notice is a shortness of breath. The body may be overtaken with unusual fatigue and you may start feeling dizzy and light headed. Many of the patients also feel begin flushing or a cold sweat just before. The pain in the chest may also begin travelling to the back. If you happen to experience one or more of these symptoms and the discomfort seems to be coming on suddenly, you should contact medical personnel immediately.
Causes for chest pain left side
Myocardial Infarction (MI). It is commonly known as stroke or heart attack. It happens because a part of the heart did not receive proper oxygenation causing infarction (death or damage to the heart tissue). A classic sign will be the pain described as heaviness over the chest which usually radiates to the left side up to the left arm. When this symptom is experienced, an individual should immediately seek help as it is already a sign of impending doom. Treatments for MI include Aspirin, Nitroglycerin, Morphine, and oxygenation.
Pneumothorax. It is basically defined as collapsed lung. It occurs when air leaks in to the space between the lungs and chest wall. Thus the pressure building outside the lungs causes the lungs to collapse. This incident is detrimental and should receive immediate and proper medical attention. The most common symptoms are chest pain and shortness of breath. The treatments for pneumothorax include close observation, chest tube thoracotomy (CTT), and surgery. In CTT a tube is inserted between the ribs into the air-filled space. As the air is removed, the lungs are allowed to recover from the damage.
Lung Cancer. Patients with lung cancer reported to experience chest pain. This is the common symptom that pushed them to seek treatment but by the time they realized their diagnosis, it is already too late. As we all know, the common cause of lung cancer is cigarette smoking. Lung cancer can also present with weight loss, cough, difficulty of breathing, loss of appetite, and wheezing. The treatments for this condition are radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. In advanced cases, palliative treatment is the only option. Wherein the focus is addressing the symptoms in order to allow the individual to have a quality life on his remaining days.
Intestinal trouble: Some of the times even intestinal trouble may cause pain in your chest. The gas could potentially be trying to push its way up the intestines and end up causing pain in the left side of the chest. Severe digestive disorders or even heart burn may also cause the chest pain when the symptoms flare. If the classic signs of a heart attack do not accompany this pain then it is very much likely that it isn’t cardiac dysfunction that you need to be worried about.
Angina: In addition to the possibility of a heart attack, heart pain can also be caused by angina, a condition where the normal blood flow is interrupted due to the harrowing of the arteries.
Physical injuries: Physical injuries may also lead to pain on the left side and can be extremely uncomfortable. Contracting a large bruise, pinching a nerve or straining a muscle can cause the this pain to soar. In addition to being a cause for chest pain, a pinched nerve can also lead to desensitization or numbness in the arm which could then be easily mistaken for a heart attack. Carefully evaluating your symptoms can indeed help to determine if you are suffering from a cardiac issue or a simple injury.
Stress: Stress could potentially lead to chest pain manifesting itself in the left side. You may feel tightness in your chest which could then potentially get worse or even get agitated during periods of extreme stress. Making poor lifestyle choices could also lead to conditions in which excessive pressure is put on the heart or end up causing the arteries to tighten, in turn causing pain in the left side of the chest. These choices include obesity, diabetes and excessive intake of tobacco and alcohol. If left to be unchecked, these issues could possibly lead to severe cardiac issues ranging as far as a heart attack.

Rib Fracture. This is the most common cause of pain involving the rib cage. Fractures happen during trauma like vehicle accidents, falling from the stairs, and even physical contact. The intensity of the pain varies with the severity of the fracture. In worst case scenarios, the ribs may even puncture the heart or lungs. This is diagnosed using chest X-rays to confirm the break in continuity of the bone. The pain may also be accompanied by swelling, inflammation, and difficulty in breathing. Treatment will definitely include non-steroidal pain killers to provide fast relief, warm compress, rib pads, and bed rest. It usually takes 6 weeks before rib fractures can heal.
Costrochondritis. It is the inflammation of the cartilages that connects the ribs to the sternum. Along with pain, other symptoms include swelling, inflammation, and difficulty in breathing. Treatment includes pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, and steroids.

It can be caused by abuse of medications that causes gastric irritation like Ibuprofen and Prednisone. Symptoms include left side stomach pain, fatigue, weakness, nausea, vomiting, hematemesis (vomiting of blood), and pale skin. Left Sided Abdominal Pain
When an individual experiences left sided abdominal pain, it usually denotes problem in the digestive tract as most of the organs involved in digestion are on the left side of the body. But there can also be other vital organs involved including one kidney and the left lobe of the liver. The following are some of the causes associated with this kind of pain.
Diverticulitis. It is a common condition found in older people wherein there is an out pouching (diverticula) on the large intestines. Symptoms include sudden pain, nausea, vomiting, chills, fever, and changes in bowel habit. This condition can lead to sepsis (infection) and hemorrhage especially if the pouches develop a tear. Treatment may range from fluid therapy, rest, and in worst conditions, it may warrant surgery.
Kidney Stones. An obstruction can be present in the left kidney or ureters which can cause severe pain in the left side below the rib cage. It can radiate into the lower abdomen and below to the groin. The pain is sudden and is accompanied by dysuria (pain in urination), hematuria (blood in the urine), nausea, vomiting, and there is a frequent urge to urinate. Treatment includes hydration therapy (usually 2L or more fluids in a day), lithotripsy, and surgery. Lithotripsy is a medical procedure that uses shock waves to dissolve the stones into smaller pieces so that it can pass out along with the urine.
Viral Hepatitis. This is basically inflammation of the liver. This condition can also present as chronic left abdominal pain. It usually comes with symptoms like jaundice (yellow discoloration of the skin and sclera), fever, chills, and dark urine. Treatment varies on the type of Hepatitis present.
